Jess Gropen

Jess Gropen

Jess Gropen has dedicated his 20-year career to basic and applied research in cognitive science, with a focus on language acquisition and cognitive development. An experienced cognitive scientist, he has published original experimental research in the field of language learning. Currently, Dr. Gropen is a Co-Principal Investigator on Assessing the Potential Impact of a Professional Development Program in Science on Head Start Teachers and Children, a U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences (IES) project designed to help teachers make significant changes in supporting children's science development. In this ground-breaking work, he oversees quantitative and qualitative research activities, including the development of a new instrument designed to assess young children's achievement in science. Prior to joining EDC, Dr. Gropen taught extensively at McGill University and Simmons College. He holds a doctorate in Cognitive Science from MIT.
