
Costanza Eggers-Piérola
Costanza Eggers-Piérola focuses on qualitative research and professional development that help institutions and educators meet the needs of bilingual and immigrant children and families. Through her work as project director of Improving Access and Opportunity for Latinos as well as through her work on other CC&F initiatives, Dr. Eggers-Piérola has developed frameworks and methodologies that examine the teaching and learning of English Language Learners. Her professional development projects integrate approaches and resources that build cultural competence and enhance teachers' understanding of second language acquisition. Dr. Eggers-Piérola was the lead developer of Cultural Connections, an Excellence in Teaching undergraduate and graduate course that prepares teachers to enhance their teaching and their program's capacity to serve Latino children and families. Dr. Eggers-Piérola is co-author of Through my own eyes: Single mothers and the cultures of poverty (Harvard University Press) and author of Connections and commitments: Reflecting Latino values in early childhood programs (Heinemann, 2005). A recent recipient of the prestigious Schott Fellowship in Early Care and Education, Dr. Eggers-Piérola holds a doctorate in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
